ChainCatcher reports that in response to the “zero-space” governance tweet emphasized by the EU Digital Services Act, Vitalik calls for replacing “purification-style” control with user empowerment, incentive mechanisms, and transparency to uphold genuine freedom of speech and a pluralistic society.
Vitalik views this “zero-space” concept as a totalitarian and anti-pluralistic impulse, as it attempts to completely eliminate subjectively controversial content (such as “hate speech” or “disinformation”), inevitably creating conflicts and establishing technocratic authoritarian mechanisms for enforcement. Vitalik believes that a free society must accept that some people will sell “dangerous products” or spread “malicious opinions,” but the goal should not be total eradication, but rather preventing such content from dominating discourse. Vitalik advocates for a “Pirate Party-style” user empowerment: using incentives rather than bans to reduce harmful content; promoting more open and transparent social platforms, among others.
