The Trump administration imposed a visa ban on a former EU commissioner who had requested a review of Elon Musk’s X platform

ChainCatcher reports, according to CNBC, the Trump administration has imposed a visa ban on Thierry Breton, former European Commissioner and key architect of the Digital Services Act (DSA), along with four anti-disinformation activists, accusing them of censoring U.S. social media platforms.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated in a declaration: “The State Department is taking decisive action against five individuals who have systematically coerced U.S. platforms into censoring, demonetizing, and suppressing American viewpoints they oppose. These activists and weaponized NGOs have promoted censorship repression for foreign governments—each time targeting American speakers and American companies. Therefore, their entry into the U.S. could have serious negative foreign policy consequences.”

Reportedly, Breton served as a European Commissioner from 2019 to 2024, this action stems from Breton’s 2024 threat to enforce the Digital Services Act (DSA) against Musk over an uncensored Trump interview on X platform, escalating conflicts between the U.S. and the EU over digital regulation and freedom of speech.
