Trump urges Fed to cut U.S. interest rates to below 1%
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sept. 17 via social media that U.S. interest rates should be lowered to below 1%, arguing the country has top-tier credit and is seeing large-scale new investment inflows.
Trump also said the U.S. could gain at least $1.5 trillion a year by halting trade with countries that run trade surpluses against it, stressing in English that "Deficits mean losses." He added that the U.S. can no longer continue bearing global trade costs for an extended period and repeatedly urged the Federal Reserve to move quickly on rate cuts, saying lower borrowing costs would support U.S. economic growth.
