PANews, July 21 – According to The Block, former President Trump held a meeting last Thursday with Republican Senators Bernie Moreno and Cynthia Lummis, and White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt, concerning ethics provisions in the Clarity Act, but the content of the meeting was not disclosed. Industry sources revealed that Trump did not sign off on the ethics provisions during the meeting, the two sides failed to reach agreement on any of the provisions, and there are concerns that the provisions could adversely affect Trump in the future. A Lummis spokesperson declined to comment, while Moreno’s team and the White House also did not respond.
The ethics provisions represent one of the final hurdles to passing the Clarity Act, and are designed to restrict senior officials — including the president, vice president, and members of Congress — from profiting from digital assets while in office. The core dispute revolves around Trump’s meme coin and his family company, World Liberty Financial. Politico previously reported that the current text lacks Democratic support, and Senator Ruben Gallego stated that without strong ethics provisions there would be no Democratic votes. The bill text is expected to be released in the coming days, and the Senate needs to vote before the first week of August, but industry sources say the text may not be released until an ethics deal is reached.
