Housing bill containing CBDC ban to automatically take effect early Saturday local time, Trump’s refusal to sign invalid

PANews, July 11 – According to CoinDesk, a bipartisan housing bill that includes a CBDC ban will automatically take effect at midnight local time on July 11, despite President Trump’s refusal to sign it. Trump posted on Truth Social that he “will not sign the housing bill in protest of the Senate’s failure to pass the Protect American Voter Eligibility Act,” but under the U.S. Constitution, a bill automatically becomes law if the president does not sign it within 10 days of receiving it from Congress. Trump did not exercise his veto, so the bill takes effect at midnight local time on Saturday. The CBDC ban will last until the end of 2030 and prohibits the Federal Reserve from issuing a digital dollar. The ban has previously been inserted by Republicans into various bills and was ultimately attached to the housing legislation. Trump’s refusal to sign has raised concerns that if Congress passes the Clarity Act this summer, it could face a similar fate.
