Plattsburgh weighs 12-month pause on new crypto mining, AI data center permits

Plattsburgh, New York, is considering a 12-month halt on new permits for cryptocurrency mining and AI data centers, among other high-power computing facilities, Cointelegraph reported.

According to the report, the city recently held a public hearing on a proposed ordinance that would temporarily restrict land use for certain high-power computing facilities, including crypto mining and AI data centers. If approved, the measure would suspend new permits for related facilities requiring over 300 kilowatts of power for 12 months. Plattsburgh Mayor Wendell Hughes has not approved the ordinance so far, and the city council is scheduled to hold another meeting on Sept. 17.
