Ripple and Robinhood are expanding their partnership to bring the RLUSD stablecoin to more of Robinhood's retail and institutional businesses. RLUSD is already live on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp, while the companies expect to add it to the main Robinhood app later in 2026.

The October 27 agreement also covers settlement for institutional customers, cash management for Robinhood and financing through Ripple Prime. For a user, the first practical question is where RLUSD is available and what it can be used for.

What Did Ripple and Robinhood Announce?

The companies agreed to use Ripple's products across stablecoin access, business payments and institutional markets. Ripple's announcement identifies three parts: RLUSD, Ripple Treasury and Ripple Prime.

What Did Ripple and Robinhood Announce?

RLUSD is a digital token designed to track the U.S. dollar. Robinhood will use it for services across its crypto ecosystem, and institutional customers of Bitstamp can use RLUSD on the XRP Ledger for settlement. Settlement is the transfer of an asset or payment that completes a transaction.

Ripple Treasury is software for managing company funds. Robinhood plans to use it for tasks such as tracking cash, moving payments and forecasting liquidity. Those functions sit behind the company’s operations rather than acting as a consumer trading token.

Ripple Prime provides institutional access to financing and trading services. These arrangements can help professional customers move or finance positions, subject to the terms of their service agreements.

Can You Use RLUSD on Robinhood Now?

RLUSD is live on Robinhood Chain and on Bitstamp. Ripple expects it to reach the main Robinhood app later in 2026, but its announcement does not give a launch date for every user or region.

Robinhood Chain is a blockchain; the Robinhood app is a separate service. A token can be available on a blockchain before a particular app offers a balance, deposit or trading screen for it. Access also depends on the user's country and the product's launch terms.

When transferring a stablecoin, the sending and receiving services need to support the same network. A USD value alone does not identify the blockchain carrying the token. This withdrawal guide explains how networks and receiving addresses fit together.

What Is RLUSD Used For?

RLUSD can be used as a dollar-denominated token for transfers, trading and settlement where a platform supports it. Ripple says its reserve backing includes dollar deposits and U.S. government securities, and it publishes information about the asset and its reserves.

Suppose an institution sells a digital asset and receives 1,000 RLUSD. It may keep the tokens as a dollar-oriented balance or transfer them to a service that accepts RLUSD. The transfer can happen on a blockchain rather than through a conventional bank transfer.

The token aims to track one dollar, but its market price can move away from that target. Liquidity, exchange trading conditions, redemption access and confidence in the issuer can all affect the price a buyer or seller receives.

A comparison of dollars and USDT explains the broader distinction between bank-issued fiat money and a dollar-pegged crypto token.

How Is RLUSD Different From USDG?

RLUSD and USDG are separate dollar-oriented stablecoins. RLUSD is issued by Ripple; USDG is issued by Paxos Digital Singapore. Each has its own reserves, redemption rules, supported networks and available trading venues.

How Is RLUSD Different From USDG?

Holding one does not give the user a balance in the other. For example, 100 RLUSD and 100 USDG are recorded as different assets even if both trade near $1. Exchanging one for the other requires a supported market or service and may involve a spread or fee.

The issuer also matters when redeeming. The process, eligibility and minimum amount depend on the service used. Most retail users access stablecoins through an exchange rather than directly redeeming with the issuer.

RLUSD is also different from XRP. XRP has its own market price and is used on the XRP Ledger; RLUSD is a stablecoin designed to follow the dollar. A partnership involving RLUSD does not automatically give an XRP holder a claim on RLUSD reserves.

FAQ

Are RLUSD and XRP the same asset?

No. RLUSD is Ripple's dollar-backed stablecoin. XRP is a separate cryptocurrency with its own market price and uses on the XRP Ledger.

Is RLUSD always worth exactly $1?

RLUSD targets $1, but its trading price can differ from $1 as market demand, liquidity and access to redemption change.
