Analyst: Fed’s decision is a ‘hawkish pause’

PANews July 30 news, according to Gelonghui report, analysts described the Federal Reserve’s decision as a “hawkish hold.” Although a majority of members chose to keep interest rates unchanged, three committee members — Dallas Fed’s Logan, Cleveland Fed’s Hammack, and Minneapolis Fed’s Kashkari — voted to support a 25-basis-point rate hike. Barclays’ Mark Giannoni said: “The FOMC made a ‘hawkish hold’ decision.” “This policy decision was made in the face of significant hawkish resistance, with these hawkish members favoring an immediate rate hike rather than waiting for more data before deciding.” Previously, economists had broadly expected two dissenting votes, and Kashkari’s vote for a hike surprised some. Janus Henderson Investors analyst Daniel Siluk said: “The three dissenting votes in favor of a hike underscore that there is still a sizeable force within the committee that remains concerned about inflation.”
